Three Series to Try Out This Wednesday: Comic Book Comics #5, Magus #3, and Cinderella: Fables are Forever #5

It's been too long since out last update, but we're going to be back in full force this week!  Onto your regularly scheduled feature!

Each Wednesday I'm going highlight three series that just aren't being given enough attention by my fellow readers in the hope that some of you will expand your horizons, pick up an issue (or book) and find a new favorite!

This week, we're recommending Comic Book Comics #5, Magus #3, and Cinderella: Fables are Forever #2

Comic Book Comics #5 (of 5)
Writer: Fred Van Lente
Artist: Ryan Dunlavey
Price: #3.95 (40 Pages)

Fred Van Lente and Ryan Dunlavey are masters of comic edutainment.  From their Xeric-Grant winning Action Philosophers to this current story detailing the history of the comic book industry, Van Lente and Dunlavey never fail to make sometimes dry material a fun and riveting read.  Van Lente intersperses his trademark wit throughout the scripts while Dunlavey lends his cartoonist sensibilities to the characters making light of just how ridiculous some of these true life stories are.  This issue is an "All-Lawsuit" issue, touching on things like the Kirby family versus Marvel legal battle among other things.  Check out the preview here to get a taste of the enlightenment that lays before you.

Magus #3 (of 5)
Writer:  Jon Price
Artist: Rebekah Isaacs
Price: $3.99

We reviewed issue #1 in the blog's inaugural single issue review feature some time ago and needless to say, it was a most pleasant surprise.  Newcomer Jon Price did some very solid world-building within that issue while teasing portents of greater things down the line.  The characters felt solid and the incorporation of magic into the world felt like the proper shock to the system that it would be should magic ever invade the mundane.  Unfortunately, we haven't been able to get a hold of issue #2 yet, but the strength of issue #1 makes recommending Magus #3 an easy no-brainer.  Plus, you get DRAGONS VERSUS HELICOPTERS.  Even better, you get to see Rebekah Isaacs draw the whole thing beautifully!  Always a plus to have her on board.  Check out the preview here.

Cinderella: Fables are Forever #2 (of 6)
Writer: Chris Roberson
Artist: Shawn McManus
Price: $2.99

The Oz world invasion continues as Roberson and McManus kick their second Cinderella adventure into high gear.  The first miniseries was an absolute hoot to read, breaking away from the overall tone of the main Fables book and writing a fun action romp starring the mythical figures' premiere assassin.  This miniseries looks to have another unlikely super-spy facing off against our titular hero in the form of Dorothy from Wizard of Oz.  The first issue had some excellent pacing and typically good McManus art making this book an easy recommendation.  Check out the preview for the book here.

In addition to those single issues, don't forget that the first trade of Skullkickers comes out this Wednesday at a nice intro price of $9.99!  Check out our advance review of the book here!
